About Econo Lounge

Econo Lounge is a data-visualization service that lets anyone, for free, take in the economic indicators of major countries at a glance and understand what they mean.

Economic news is full of terms like 'GDP growth,' 'Consumer Price Index (CPI),' and 'unemployment rate' — our goal is to help you understand what those numbers actually mean and how they affect markets, using charts and explanations, without any specialized knowledge.

What we do

Economic news is full of difficult terms and numbers, but it's not easy to intuitively grasp what those figures mean for daily life and markets. Econo Lounge turns the reliable statistics published by the World Bank into visual charts, and explains in plain language how each indicator is commonly interpreted in the stock market when it rises or falls. We don't just list numbers — we try to answer the question, "So what does this actually mean?"

Data source and reliability

All statistics on this service use the World Development Indicators provided by World Bank Open Data. The World Bank is an international organization that collects and verifies official statistics from more than 190 member countries — an authoritative data source widely cited by academia, the press, and policy institutions. Econo Lounge only processes and visualizes this data; it does not alter the original figures. At the bottom of each indicator page, we also provide a link to the original World Bank source for that data.

Data update cadence

Unlike stock prices, which change in real time, economic indicators are compiled and released quarterly or annually. So instead of real-time updates, this service loads the most recently published data based on the day you visit. If you return the same day, saved values stored in your browser are reused to reduce unnecessary data requests, and when the date changes, the latest data is fetched again automatically.

Who it's for

  • General investors who want to grasp economic trends from a big-picture view
  • Students studying economics or business who want to learn what indicators mean
  • Anyone who wants to compare economic conditions across countries
  • Anyone who has always found economic jargon in the news confusing

What's next

We currently provide the economic-indicator analysis feature, and plan to add tools over time such as an 'economic calendar' for major release dates and a 'market holiday calendar' summarizing exchange closures. We'll keep developing this into a richer, more useful economic data lounge.
